Toral has over thirteen years of experience working in conflict and disaster affected countries including South Sudan, Mali, Iraq, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Philippines. She is a specialist on gender equality, social inclusion and protection against gender-based violence (GBV) in emergencies and she has a Master’s degree in International Conflict Studies from Kings College London. She has worked for organisations including the United Nations, the European Union, the UK government and several international NGOs.
She has vast experience in conducting gender and protection assessments and analyses to inform humanitarian and development programming and leading projects that meet the specific needs of women, men, boys and girls and promotes the rights of the most marginalised. In addition she has worked on civil-military training and previously worked for the European Union Training Mission in Mali providing International Humanitarian Law and Prevention of Sexual Violence training to Malian and European soldiers. She is also experienced in working on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (on women, peace and security) particularly for the UK government and the UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
